With winter fast approaching, I will probably turn into a hilariously over-aged mall rat any day now. As for West Ed specifically, I'm not too fond of the place. But, for people watching and window shopping, it is hard to beat.

I'm not sure that going to that shrine of consumerism necessarily counts as "free fun," though.

I haven't been to Edmonton in a long time. But, I hear West Ed is TONS of fun. Basically, you should just embrace your senior-self now and start mall walking.

I think the lack of money largely is linked to the declining standard of living of many people I know. The boom has increased the demand for housing causing rent to go through the roof, this would be a big reason why a lot of people have less spending money than they used to. But I'm just a jaded hater of the economy.

I was going to suggest other things but I'm drawing a blank on what there is to do for free in e-town, other than the stuff you listed.
