About River City Writer
River City Writer is a blog covering life and culture in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Whether you’ve lived in the city all your life, arrived only recently, or are considering moving here to take advantage of our booming economy, River City Writer is for you.
My name is Adam Snider, and I created this blog because I love Edmonton, and I feel that the city’s cultural scene doesn’t get enough respect–even from the people who live here. I’ve met too many artists, writers, and other creative types who think that Edmonton lacks venues for them to show their work. I’ve met too many ordinary Edmontonians who believe all the negative press that “Deadmonton” gets.
I know that the cultural scene in this city is alive and well. Whether it’s a huge festival like the Fringe, or something smaller, like the Raving Poets hosting an open mic poetry reading at Kasbar Lounge, there is always something going on in Edmonton.
River City Writer exists to highlight this cultural scene, and to help Edmontonians discover what’s going on in their community. If there is a play being staged, a poetry reading happening, or if one of Edmonton’s many festivals is in progress, I’ll do my best to check it out, and then write about it here.
Of course, I can only do so much by myself. If you’ve got something that you think River City Writer should cover, and I haven’t mentioned it, let me know. If I have the time to check it out, I will. If I don’t, I may ask you to write a guest post about the subject (for more details, send me an email).
About Adam Snider
Adam Snider is a writer, poet, and blogger from Edmonton, AB, Canada. He was born and raised in Edmonton, and has a deep affection for his hometown
Adam is involved in nearly all aspects of Edmonton’s cultural scene, usually as an observer, but occasionally as a participant. Adam is an active member of the Raving Poets, and a volunteer for Edmonton’s best festival of poetry and spoken word, the Roar.
In addition to River City Writer, Adam also has a personal blog called Ink Slinger, where he rambles on about his personal life, interesting things he finds online, and whatever else comes into his mind.
